What a great weekend we had at the Flat River Retriever Club's spring trial. Ely ran his first ever Qual and won. Billy ran his first Derby and he also brought home the blue ribbon. We are blessed with some very talented dogs here.
Ely earns his Grand Hunting Retriever Title
Ely and I went off to Union City Tennesee chasing his GHRCH. Boy did he ever come through. It was a meat grinder of a test for sure. 426 of the HRC's best dogs gathered to give it a go, when the dust setteled only 74 remained. Ely was on of 12 dogs to pass from our flight of 107 dogs. Not only did he pass but he did it with clean score sheets for every test. Since the Grand title's inception in the mid 80's there have only been 437 to earn the right to be called Grand Hunting Retriever Champion, Very few have done it at 37 months old. You are an exceptional dog Ely!!!
GHRCH Hunters Marsh King Elijah "Ely" passes 2009 AKC Master National Hunt Test
Since we were half way to Giddings Texas and Ely was qualified we decided it made good sense to go take a crack at the coveted Master National hunt test. So from the Grand we went directly to Texas for a few days of pre national training before the test began. It was a cool wet week but we got through it with a pass. Of the 3100 plus dogs to run Master Hunter test in 2009 only 15% of them qualified for the nationals. Of the nearly 400 dogs that showed up to have a go at it less than 50% made it through. Nice work Ely, nice work.
